In 2015-2016, it became clear to me that the communal centos we compose during the open mic at First Tuesdays had become central not just to the experience of the open mic experience itself, but also to the way First Tuesdays was coming together as a community. The way listening for what could be the cento’s “next line” focused the audience’s attention on the open-mic reader’s work introduced something into the way people saw the work being shared at the open mic that I had never seen before. So I decided to do something special with that season’s centos, and I created a PDF chapbook, which you can download here if you’re interested.
I wish I had the time and energy to create a chapbook like this every season. Or, perhaps one day, I’ll be able go through them all—once they’re all up on this website—and do a “selected.” If you do decide to take a look at the chapbook, I do hope you’ll let me know what you think.
